Egypt has two coasts at once, suitable for creating a tourist infrastructure. The most popular resorts in the country are located on the Red Sea. There is not only a rich underwater world and clean beaches, but also a variety of leisure options, including nightlife. The Mediterranean has more historical sites and opportunities to learn about the region and its features.
Bus and sometimes air excursions to Luxor and Cairo depart from each city. Tourists are offered to explore the Valley of the Pharaohs, pyramids and other visiting cards of Egypt. Depending on what kind of vacation is preferable: measured or active, and you need to choose a resort for accommodation, since in terms of the cleanliness of the beaches and the sea, as well as the range of services and comfort, they are all very similar.
List of major resorts in Egypt
The most popular holiday destinations on the shores of the Red and Mediterranean Sea in Egypt.
Sharm El Sheikh
Occupies the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula. The name translates as "Tsar's Bay". More than 500 hotels of various levels have been built here. For lovers of evening entertainment, there is a place to taste in Naama Bay. At the Sharm al-Maya bazaar, you can buy everything from souvenirs to fresh seafood. The underwater world is worth exploring when diving or on a glass-bottomed boat trip.
Hurghada
The oldest and most famous resort in Egypt. The tourist center is called Sakkah: there are discos, cafes, restaurants and shops. There are hotels for families with children, as well as for noisy companies. Popular entertainment - camel rides, visits to the Aquarium, scuba diving. It is very convenient to get to Luxor from here, but not to the pyramids.
Alexandria
Of all the cities in Egypt, it is here that you can see European influence. In terms of museums, architecture and historical monuments, Alexandria can surprise even the discerning tourist. Hotels within the city rarely have their own comfortable beaches. Main attractions: Fort, Library of Alexandria, Ras al-Tin Palace, Museum of Fine Arts. Prices in the city are lower than in other resorts.
Dahab
Located on the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. The distance from the airport made the area less popular with travelers. Dahab is conventionally divided into two parts. The first has hotels and the opportunity to relax in comfort. The second is filled with campsites, where you do not need to book a place in advance, and the prices are minimal. At the same time, there are yoga centers, small cafes and bars, cozy beaches with beautiful views.
El Gouna
Located north of Hurghada. The resort is designed atypically for Egypt: we repeatedly cross the canals, through which boats like taxis run. Bridges have been built connecting separate islands of land. Not all hotels have access to the sea and their own beaches. Swimming in the canals is allowed, but not everywhere. Luxor and Cairo are usually reached from here by air from a local small airport.
Sahl Hasheesh
A young Egyptian resort on the Red Sea coast. Some hotels are still under construction, others are already attracting tourists with service, clean beaches, the opportunity to go diving and plunge into the local flavor. Excursions are organized, both in classic directions - for example, Cairo and Luxor, and in the surrounding area. Legends tell about the existence here in the past of a prosperous port city of Isis, which went under water.
Ain Sokhna
From Cairo to here about 100 km. The translation of the name is "hot spring". The lack of large shopping malls and noisy clubs makes the resort suitable for families. Even during the season there are few tourists. Mountain views are added to the usual white beaches and azure sea on the Red Sea coast. The hotels are mid-range, and the tourist centers offer excursions throughout the country.
Makadi Bay
One of the young respectable resorts is located near Hurghada. The hotels are marked with 4 or 5 stars, the service is of a high level, as are the beaches in general. It is poorly suited for noisy companies: nightlife is concentrated on the territory of hotel complexes. Water activities, from boat trips to underwater adventures, are more geared towards family or leisurely relaxation. Excursions are no different from neighboring cities.
El Quseir
The area is popular with Egyptians and those already familiar with the country. The coast offers additional opportunities for diving and spearfishing. Accommodation is offered both within the village of the same name and outside it in hotels. Excursions to the Zabargad reef, as well as to the islands of Maly and Bolshoy Brat, are the most interesting part of your leisure time. You can also visit Hurghada, which is 2 hours by bus.
Port Ghalib
The resort was designed as a fusion of Egyptian culture and a luxury holiday destination. The harmony between nature and architecture makes Port Ghalib an eco-resort. In addition to hotels, water parks, walkways for walking in hot weather, spa salons have been built. There is a diving center "Emperor", where beginners are accepted for training. It takes about 2 hours to get to Luxor and its Valley of the Pharaohs.
Taba
The resort is located in the border area close to Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Day trips to other countries are organized. There is a large casino, otherwise entertainment and nightlife is sparse. The beaches of Taba are suitable for visiting with children: the corals have been removed from the coast. Cafes, restaurants and shops are more focused on tourists who are ready to spend money and who value regularity.
Bur-Safaga
One of the resorts in Egypt, which has a specialization. There are conditions for windsurfing and kiteboarding. Scuba diving allows you to explore sunken ships near the coast. There are two islands nearby. The impressive length of beaches with incomplete occupancy even in season is a competitive advantage of Bur Safaga. Sightseeing: Turkish fortress, Roman quarries, Pharaoh's harbor.
Mersa Matruh
The translation of the name is “dropped anchor”. The resort is popular with the Egyptians and is tailored to their interests and needs. From June to September, it is better to refrain from relaxing in Mersa Matruh: it is very crowded. The rest of the time, the white sand and clean bays are more hospitable to foreigners. There is a small Libyan market. The main attraction is the bay, fenced off by rocks, called the Cleopatra Baths.
Marsa Alam
A rapidly developing and rebuilding resort. From a small village on the coast, it has turned into an attractive vacation spot before our eyes. The coastline stretches for 70 km. Since the underwater world, including coral thickets, is untouched by people, diving enthusiasts come here. The beaches are not yet full in season, and the level of hotels is already high. Suitable for families and those who value silence.
El Alamein
The city is located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Battles took place near the coast during the Second World War. The sunken ships then attract divers. Moreover, the underwater world is generally poorer than in the Red Sea. A number of historical events are associated with El Alameini, so fans of excursions will have something to do with themselves. Nobody canceled the beach vacation either, and the cost of accommodation in the resort is lower than in the same Hurghada.
El-Arish
One of the "conservative" resorts in Egypt: there are restrictions on open clothing and vibrant nightlife. In addition to the hotel room, you can rent a villa on the beach. There are quite a few “savage” tourists in El Arish. On the outskirts, stretched palm groves are ideal for walking. There is a Museum of Sinai Heritage, a small zoo, a Bedouin market, expensive restaurants and cafes with simple dishes.
Nuweiba
Located in the east of the Sinai Peninsula. The coastal zone is 30 km long and is divided into 3 parts. The city of Nuweiba itself is suitable for a comfortable stay. Next is the seaport of Meisen - a place for walking and searching for excursions. And the village of Tabarin introduces the life of baboons: those who wish can see the bamboo huts and the ruins of an old fortress. From the resort it is convenient to get to Mount Moses and the Colored Canyon.
Soma Bay
One of the new Egyptian resorts. Most of the hotels in the area have 5 stars. The high level of comfort is paid accordingly. For their money, tourists receive golden sand, clear sea, beach service, including trifles, modern spas, gastronomic delights from the country's best chefs, a large golf course, various types of excursions and variations of outdoor activities.
El Tour
The resort belongs to the Gulf of Moses. Since the city is not covered by mountains, it is almost always windy here, which means there is room for windsurfers, kitesurfers and other water sports enthusiasts. The beaches are covered with sand, but small rocks are periodically washed ashore by the tide. However, the entrance to the water is convenient and safe, as there are no coral reefs near the coast. From here to Sharm el-Sheikh 80 km.
Zaafarana
A relatively young resort on the Red Sea. Within walking distance from the beaches there are restaurants, spas and aqua centers. There is nightlife, but it does not compare with the level of other resorts. Zaafarvan is more suitable for a measured, quiet rest. There are two Orthodox monasteries nearby: St. Paul and St. Anthony. The most frequently suggested excursions are trips to Cairo and Alexandria.
